Josue From Brophy's Rugby Field to Notre Dame On His Own Terms

When Josue enrolled at Brophy College Prep his freshman year, he arrived with big ambitions and a family that couldn't afford tuition alone. Four years later, he's heading to the University of Notre Dame as a QuestBridge National College Match Scholar — with plans to study English and go on to law school.

“I wouldn't be the same person without having attended Brophy, and certainly not in the same position to succeed as I look toward my future.”

At Brophy, Josue has built a life defined by curiosity and community. He edits the Opinions section of The Roundup, Brophy's student newspaper, competes on the mock trial team, and plays rugby. Outside of school, he makes time for music, movies, working out, and his family.

The opportunities Josue has accessed because of BCF go well beyond the classroom. He traveled to Nogales, Mexico and Peru on service trips, stood at the Arizona State Capitol to advocate for the rights of undocumented families, and deepened his Catholic faith within Brophy's Jesuit tradition.

None of it, he says, would have been possible without the support of BCF donors.

ABOUT BCF

The Brophy Community Foundation is an Arizona School Tuition Organization that provides tuition assistance to income-qualified families across 37 private schools in the Phoenix area. BCF is funded entirely by Arizona tax credit donations — meaning your gift redirects your existing state tax liability at zero extra cost to you.

Josue's story is a testament to what happens when financial barriers are removed and a student is given the space to grow. He is one of 1,642 BCF recipients across 37 Arizona private schools — and his journey is only beginning. With Tax Day just days away, his story is a reminder of exactly what's at stake.
